They probably would - post elsewhere confirms that Three will give you one, but if I want to buy a phone this morning and transfer my current SIM into it for immediate use, that could be a problem as all new phones I'm considering are nano. Seems to have charged last night, though.
Went into the Three shop and as ever got excellent customer service - they offered to give me a SIM, asked what phones I wanted to buy, and offered me one better than those for a cheaper price. Problem solved and phone purchased in under 10 minutes, mostly taken up with me looking at the compare site they found for me asking what various features meant!

Your current network really won't give you a new SIM? Whenever I've needed to deal with this they've just sent one in the post.
