Green: mobile for Pokemon Go

Ugh, I hate researching mobile phones. Can anyone help me?
I already have a tablet so what I basically need a phone for is to make occasional calls and play Pokemon Go. I like Android as an operating system. I have a preference for ethical-as-possible, but my first choice of a Fairphone isn't an option as it's only offered by the Co-op Mobile, who have just told me my credit rating isn't good enough. So I'm basically avoiding Apple and Samsung as manufacturers but am otherwise open. (I should be able to get phones with 3mobile, EE or Virgin.)
Any suggestions? It's the Pokemon Go part that I'm struggling with, otherwise I'd just take the cheapest smartphone I could find. (My tablet lets me play it sometimes but it's temperamental on there). Does anyone have experience with cheap smartphones it works on?
