I was talking to my friend from Thailand. his father is a diplomat and he lived in France for a few years, then switzerland, then the US and ended up at Columbia b/c of the Journalism and his family moved back to France and its faster for him to stay at columbia ad graduate than go back to France.. anyway he said something that i had never heard

When I was living in England, I heard quite often that they had the impression that Americans were quite friendly and 'loved life', hence why they (Americans) would talk to anyone. The people I talked to thought it quite an attribute.
