I haven't been very responsive here lately, I'm afraid; the end of the semester crunch has been occupying my time, but I'm home now.

Unfortunately the bits with Spock just didn't cut it for me, especially that one scene at the end

That scene was dreadful. And made no sense, in terms of plot, or character, or emotional pay-off.

Shallow that I am, I kept thinking that somewhere along the line in the "real" universe, Spock must have got a nose job, but in the AU the Vulcan plastic surgeon was one of the bilions who was killed. The acting simply wasn't riveting enough to take my mind off the nose difference.

This version's Spock was definitely the weakest link for me. Far too much subtle emotion. At times, I thought he was more Romulan than Vulcan, and don't see how he managed to complete his Vulcan training. And don't even get me started on the plot holes! Shh. I want to preserve this feeling of having enjoyed a Star Trek movie for a change ;)

Anyway. I'm glad you had a good Mother's Day!
