Dyanne's meme

I haven't done one of these in a good long while.

1. What are your reasons for having a LJ?
Venting, mostly, and keeping in touch with friends.

2. What do you do before bedtime?
Brush teeth. Insert night guard. Apply moisturizer. Pet cat. Set alarm. Remove glasses. Make Will get the light.

3. What will your dream wedding be like?
At Glen Echo. I'll get married in the Spanish Ballroom, ride my horse on the carousel in my wedding dress with my new husband, and then go back to the ballroom to eat foodz and dance and party with everyone I love. And I'll pull it off managing to spend as little of my parents' money as possible.

4. What is the city of your dreams and why?
I don't think there is one, since the city of one's dreams is by definition ideal, and everywhere you go is going to have something wrong with it. But New York is pretty damn close. I don't need a car, I can go anywhere on the subway for two bucks, and I have easy access to three carousels and slightly more complicated access to two more, one of which I haven't yet been to. But I do feel the gap between rich and not-rich far more than I ever have now that I live here.

5. Are you an introvert or extrovert?
It depends on who I'm with. I'm extroverted around the bivalves and Fords and when I feel like speaking my mind, but in crowds or around strangers I'm horribly shy and prefer to just shut up so I don't say something stupid. I usually do anyway.

6. Which is more blessed, loving someone or being loved by someone?
Love is a mutual exchange. You can't have one without the other.

7. Do you trust easily?
Sometimes too easily.

8. If the person you secretly like is already attached, what would you do?
Feel bad. Pout. Never make a move.

9. Is there anything that has made you unhappy these days?
My job. Globalization. The hypersexualization of everything. Harlequin. "Women's fiction." The state of publishing in general. Joss Whedon. Bug bites. Heat. My ongoing creative dry spell and the fact that I can't tell a story. The better question is what actually makes me happy.

10. What are your best qualities?
I'm loyal and honest. I can find life and meaning in impossible places. I'm smart and literate. Also, I appear to taste good, as evidenced by the fact that I managed to sustain four consecutive mosquito bites from my hip to my knee while wearing pants.

11. Is being tagged fun?
It is when it's laser-tagged. I sure miss laser tag.

12. How do you see yourself?
With a mirror. Alternately, I waver between overestimating and underestimating myself.

13. Who are currently the most important people to you?
I have so many. Will, my family, my bivalves, my friends from Haverford.

14. What kind of person do you think the person who tagged you is?
I just nicked it from Dyanne. But if I had to guess, I'd say she's a quiet but deep progressive-minded woman of East Asian descent living in the suburbs of Washington, D.C.

15. Would you rather be single and rich or married but poor?
Depends on who I'm getting married to here. Am I married to Will, or am I married to, say, Donald Trump?

16. How many children do you want to have, if any?
At this point in my life I still hate kids. I could maybe do one if I feel better about it in a decade but right now, god, never. I'd rather be somebody's crazy aunt.

17. What's better, to give or to receive?
Again, a mutual exchange.

18. If you fell in love with two people simultaneously, who would you pick?
You know, I just read a manga about this. It taught me that if I'm ever in this situation, I should pick the robot, who will irrevocably shut down six months after I have sex with him but, in the meantime, summon my real-life true love back home to Japan from Spain to be with me forever.

19. Would you have 100% safe sex with a stranger for $10,000,000?
Does Will know?

20. What were your parents going to name you if you'd been born the opposite sex?
Christopher.
