RANT TIME, or, why I don't want to buy or play BlazBlue: Continuum Shift.

I just want to play a video game without boobs in my face )

But she goes into battle wearing that, the prominence of her chest is a running joke in the game (Taokaka can never remember her name and just calls her "boobie lady"), and she has a terrible habit of moaning very sexually whenever she gets hit (in the Japanese audio, at least).

Urgh.

Her boobs obscure her face.

Yes. Yes they do.

I wish I had something to add besides >:(

I knew that either you or Sandi (or both) were going to respond and share my outrage ^^

I just... I look at this kind of thing and I feel tired, more than anything else. And kind of hopeless regarding its chances for improvement, considering this game comes from Japan, where women are kinda second-class and which has no real feminist movement.

Here I am!

I would also note that on the new character drawing 1) buttons = nipples, 2) creepy grin obscured by boobs = less factors off-putting sexualization, 3) her posture's so weird, like she's getting knocked down or something? I'm not sure quite what to do with that, but it seems like the original character is, like, In Your Face and To Be Reckoned With, whereas the new one visually reads as confused and unstable and just... does not project power.

P.S. If you seek further commiseration, I recommend feminist_rage. (Though read the rules first, there are some strict controls on language and such.) There are several gamers there who post rages about this kind of thing (in addition to the community as a whole, of course).

Oh, don't think I didn't notice the button-nipple thing. And the bizarre posture, which seems to be purely to show off her newly inflated chest. While Taokaka is certainly easily confused in-game, her posture there tends to skew cute, not sexy. And while playing as her I've gotten knocked down a lot, and she doesn't fall that way. SO NOT NECESSARY.

Time for some feminist rage! *scoots on over to new community*
