Unfortunately, I can't personally assist for two hundred and seventy nine workdays but I can certainly find you someone that can, assuming you don't want to wait until next November. What kind of accountant?
That was an oddly specific length of time. Uh. Right, yes. So, I recently joined the Hogwarts Board of Governors. There are some curriculum additions under discussion, which would obviously need budgeting, but I've been trying to go through the schools existing accounts and it's a mess. Or a maze. It's a messy maze.
An inherited beurocracy would be. If Hogwarts doesn't already have an accounting team...best case scenario you'll find a handful of forgotten endowments that ought to still pay out. You'll want someone with nonprofit experience. *She has a very old fashioned rolodex, the kind with a lid and a big dial on the end which she turns before opening the lid, seeming rather unimpressed with the contents, closing the lid and dialing again. As she does, she mentions, absently,* It's the approximate number of days left on my apprenticeship. The oddly specific length of time. I can't personally take clients as an apprentice.
Ah, that makes sense. *After a moment, Iana adds,* It's not that Hogwarts doesn't have its own accountants-I'm fairly certain there's a dedicated account manager, at least-but I want to understand it. Or at least big picture understand it, if not the details. Preferably without having wasted all the budget doing so. Far less of the funds seem to come directly from the Department of Magical Education than I was expecting, but also some of the endowments which seem to belong directly to the school are being overseen by DoME anyway?
The Hogwarts budget... I don't know, there's so much coming in and going out, fees and endowments, partnerships, Ministry funds, general donations, specific donations - Blaise Zabini apparently pays for the school pianos to be regularly tuned out of his own pocket, which seems generous until you see how much money the school is paying to his companies for drinks and foodstuffs.
Hmm. That's complicated, you'll need the right person who can explain all of that to you. You'll need someone who understands nonprofits and all that shit. i'll find you a name. AJ knows people.
Yeah. I'm trying to make sense of what's going in and what's going out, but it's all over the place. Everything has different schedules and limitations and requirements. I couldn't tell you if Hogwarts is broke, rolling in it, being ripped off, or stealing from people. I mean, look at this, the Prince estate gives Hogwarts fifty galleons a year for 'the upkeep and maintenance of the Hogwarts Gobstones Club'.

I think the kind of people you both know might be out of my price range, but thank you. I can but try.
AJ could probably explain it to me himself, but he has other things to deal with now.
