It just seems like the star trek name has been...abused? I will admit I am somewhat of a trek fan (not so bad as a trekkie, however. Won't catch me wearing rubber spock ears lol), it seems the producers pandered too much to what is popular, "trek" tradition be damned.
One thing that was glaring to me was the fact that the USS Kelvin had no nacelles. Alternate timeline or not, they (in the trek universe at least) are needed for warp travel. Which is further ruined by the mention of Admiral Archer - his father designed starfleet's first warp 5 engine. The original Enterprise (not kirk's) had nacelles. So where are they on the Kelvin?
All in all, it is a awesome movie, they just didn't take enough care. Yes, yes the alternate reality thing...but even then some things shouldn't change. Heh, this could spark one hell of a debate on forums....I think I might go start one for the yuks =)
