"I wish I hadn't gotten the look on her face quite this intense..."

Helena did these two really beautiful pictures of Leni the other night, which I managed to post to the OB page after some scuffling with lj, but failed to make an entry for until now. (Why, lj? Why must you fight me?)

This is the scene from which Treed takes its name. Same image, separate versions. My emotional response to the B&W versus the ( Read more... )

Both are fantastic! Really evocative. Helena's truly talented.

How're the ratties?

I don't know if you've seen her art for "Splint," but she has an insane amount up at this point on deviantart and flickr. I mostly groan in awe and envy.

The ratties are the walking wounded. Juniper was on antibiotics but has a chronic asthmatic ailment that is slowly doing her in. (Poor thing. She's such a little girl. I've been trying to put it off, but I think I need to suck it up and go.) Reason is scabby and needs an olive oil treatment. And Leia is colossally FAT because she steals all of Juniper's food.

Actually, both she and Reason are going to be put on a diet once Juniper is gone. Otherwise they are bouncy and fit.

How are the lab rats? ;)

I just wandered over to deviantArt and hit the jackpot! Holy moly. And illustrations not only for Splint, but Orc Brat and Zoop's work, too. Helena is amazing. Yep, I'm in awe, too.

Sorry to hear about little Juniper. Did you make the hard decision yet? Glad to hear that Reason and Leia are both well, if fat! I always got a kick out of the Fatty Zucker rats in the lab. As one of the research associates said, they look like furry turtles with a long tail.

Hi, ebbingnight. 8) How have you been?

Ah, well, still trying not to be too stalkerish, which is my besetting sin. (Though if you look over on Aislynn Crowdaughter's LJ, you'll see that I commented this summer on your Orc-brat still being in progress, in urging her to finish her own opus!)

I'm thinking of writing my own novel about authors who torture readers by leaving their fantasy works unfinished on the web: heaven knows I'd have a plethora of fascinating "characters" from which to choose!

How's library life?

Going grand. I promote Nanowrimo at my library as well: every year the attendance goes up, and this year's was the best that we've had yet! Since I don't normally get to "do" library programs, I really enjoy my Novembers. We also recently got a MakerBot (a 3-D printer) and have been training on it in terms of making objects, troubleshooting the machine, and so forth. It's been a lot of fun.

Oh no, don't put me in a novel! 8( Well, I definitely plan to continue it. Admittedly, I haven't touched it lately but have made many stabs since the last chapter. Unfortunately, all attempts at #27 have failed to go anywhere, but I have some thirty pages worth of "written out" false starts, and as many more in dribs and drabs.

I read "Mael-Gûl" earlier this year, for the first time! I'd held back from it for a while, but positive references to it from yourself and others made me try it. I didn't see your own one-... )

Those are amazing! I find the green one particularly disturbing!

I find that the scarier of the two. It's the lurid green, and it feels more like the figure at the bottom is going to move. The B&W feels more like it is capturing an agonized state of mind: I don't get the feeling that something is "about" to happen, though the pain is present and intense.
