y'all have some WICKED thunder bumpers out here. we dont get em like this back home.
it's messing with my life in ways i am having issues with.
4:45pm Tuesday, the power flickers....then KERRRRACK! it's OUT. looking outside, cars are driving backwards on my street, while the rain is raining "sideways" in the direction the cars just retreated from. "something ain't right"
Running outside (in a sundress and no shoes) see a tree has "dropped" a limb the size of a small tree; thereby blocking the street - Well, that explains the cars going backwards. ::sigh:: go back inside for a while and wait for the rain to let up, maybe the power to come back on.
5:30pm...still no power. Still in my Sun dress (which has dried out by now from my last "bounce" outside) i wander outside. My looky-loo neighbors from across the street are standing on their little walkway staring up the street - and at me too as i march up to the rather large debris in the roadway. There are two Police officers and one rather diminuitive female who is picking up smaller portions of this large branch that has obstructed the "flow" of traffic on our little street. well...THIS is why the power has gone out....i informed the officers that i had placed a call into the Utility letting them know that we had a branch that had fallen on power lines and he also radioed in that he needed a truck out immediately to turn the power off to the lines so that the tree could be cleared.
I started to also pick up some of the smaller branches on my side of the tree and they suggested that i not do that, cos the wire could be live and then i would end up in the hospital. well, the ground didnt feel weird, and if it had, i wouldnt have walked so close to the tree -- but i said "ok -- but if you need help -- i'm at XXXX. I also have a Chain Saw someone can use if they need to. (yes, i DO own a chain saw-it was also serviced this past winter)
they were putting out orange traffic cones so i took two to put on my side of the tree limb....and wandered back up the street. Mr. Looky-loo is STILL standing on his walkway .... watchin.
I called the utility as the darkness fell, and finally got an "update" of sorts.....Wednesday, 4pm. "ok, that's not SO bad..." then, about 2pm, i called to get an update - cos i cant breathe at all, the humidity is aggrevating my asthma, and i feel gross cos i need a shower....i liked the first update time better...."FRIDAY" bleated the update doo-dad on their voice-mail o-rama.......i SCREAMED (to myself - no one actually HEARD me)Threw a few things into a bag and called my Best friend that lives near-by.
i have to chek my email by way of an online browser i didnt know how to work right til i contacted the webmaster -- by then there was 350 messages in there....
this so TOTALLY Blows....::banging head on table::...but wait.........there's MORE.....
Apparently we got an Automated call around Noon saying "your power's back on!"....my housemate who is also hole'd up at her daughter's .... scooped up all her stuff only to find out Pepco has a MESSED UP SENSE OF HUMOR! yes, you guessed it...."SIKE!!!" No power - on the message, it says "should your power still be out, please call this number.....which then informs you that you have an HOUR AND A HALF hold time - minimum. OR...you can leave a message and "someone will get back to you in the order your call was received". WHO thinks up these brilliant..."solutions" to ...um..."customer SERVICE?"
so now, we're living like two refugees out of whatever we've dragged over to whoever will let us stay. ANnOYing....cool friends -- MESSED up circumstances.........
