Much like his partner, this sky pirate is a bit of a contradiction. On one hand he has no issues with taking what he wants like trinkets, ships, and even lives if necessary. On the other hand he still maintains a moral compass beneath the pirate bravado. Reddas even commented on how Balthier’s “apprentice” was more the pirate than he was. He wasn't one to charge into a situation before asking questions or investigating. He could be clever, suave, and charming depending on the situation.

Keeping up appearances is important to Balthier. He is refined, puts effort into his appearance and behaves ever the aristocratic gentlemen he was raised to be. Balthier tends to have a taste for theatrics and labels himself as the lead male in each of his endeavors. His humor tends to be dry and witty. When it comes to his father or matters regarding where he is from, he sounds bitter, going as far as to point out there is a different sort of filth in Arcadia.

Every sky pirate is only as great as his support, and according to him he has the best partner. Their relationship is a bit of a mystery. She is the only one he will place his life and trust in one hundred percent of the time. Fran can even get away with teasing him about his role. They can communicate without words as shown when they both left the Strahl to save everyone from the Bahumut with merely a look exchanged between them.

Pride as well as upbringing keeps him from being openly affectionate towards that get in to his shell. The way he shows it is by either sharing the tidbits he wishes forgotten or by how much faith he places in a person. For example, he will deny that he was training Vaan in his own way, but leaves his beloved ship in the boy’s hands. Another example is shown when he shares that he once was a Judge to the princess.

Third Person

[He wasn’t pleased with the state of his clothes and hair. The short spikes of dirty blond hair clung to his forehead. There was water on the inside of shoes, making a sploshing sound as he stood up. Seems ill-fortune was his mistress again. He held himself regally as he took in the scenery.]

Seems I’ve been misplaced. [It didn’t look like he was in Ivalice any more. The coral and the odd “sky” above indicated his suspicions were correct. There was also this little fairy thing, bobbing just to his left aimlessly. Maybe he was wrong about not being able to die. For now, he’ll investigate his surroundings to locate dry decent attire.]

[He had just successfully put the SFC back together. It was a curious thing, seeming to run off of a different energy source than what he was accustomed to. It was but a cute toy for communication from what he read from the screen. Balthier was sure his fiddling didn’t do any irreparable damage, but there was only one way to find out.]

I seem to be having a bit of trouble. [People were greeted with the sight of a couple of brightly colored rings on a hand.] I’ve misplaced my partner. She’s tall, dark, long hair and ears… [He saw her name on the list. Balthier knew she was there as well. The SFC zoomed out to show Balthier fully. He was resting on a couch in a Hotel room in a pair of slacks and a button-up dress shirt. His own clothes were still wet from his earlier arrival. Feed is soon cut off.]
