Mad rant

Feb 21, 2004 03:39

Ok.. 2am and I’m ready for another political rant. This issue didn’t really bother me so much before, but its really pissing me off now. There were actually people demonstrating outside of San Francisco City Hall in protest of gay marriages. I like what that mayor has done.. he’s done what I’ve always wanted a government official to do.. he’s said ( Read more... )

that is a very controversial issue. my bigget opposition to it is when people say 'a church CANNOT deny homosexuals to get married.' sorry.. but they can. the gov't has no right to be saying what the church can and cannot do.. that's why there's a separation of church and state. now if the church/priest decides that it is ok with them to do it.. then that's a different issue. i just don't think they can FORCE anyone to marry them.. unless its a justice of the peace.

No, the government has no right to do that either. Some priests still won't marry a Catholic and a Protestant, the government can't make them do that. What happens is people go to a court and get legally married there with witnesses and a judge and whatnot. THEN they go and have a religious ceremony with a priest and whatnot. The government as far as I know couldn't give a shit less about the religious ceremony of marriage. It's the legal sort of marriage that the government doesn't allow. A gay couple could have a religious ceremony and a priest marry them right now, only thing is the government will not legally recognize them as a couple just because they're a homosexual couple, not a heterosexual couple. That's bullshit IMO.

i think you should relax on the whole bigot talk considering not to long ago you didn't think gay's were fit to serve in the military this is not all that different

Its such a difficult issue though. i definately think you are still massively exagerating "abuse and torture" the gay community is going through, i've known a few gay people in my time and none of them are abused or tortured.

and if there is anything hypocritical at all about this debate its the fact of allowing homosexual marriage into a religion that clearly says homosexuality is wrong (i dont think i need to quote the bible this is an accepted fact)

government and church lines get skewed because, if so much as one church allows it the whole state must honor it, there's no unity that way i think we have to have all for or all against i dont think we can have gray area

"And why shouldn’t they be allowed to do this? I haven’t come across a good reason yet.."

BECAUSE THE WHOLE BASIS OF MARRIAGE IS FROM THE BIBLE AND THE BIBLE SAYS THAT HOMOSEXUALITY IS AN ABOMINATION!
