No you don't see many senator's sons or daughters fighting as many of them aren't in the military. Which is a choice. What the hell does that have to do with National Security? What does that have to do on whether we should go battle the enemy? Can we please debate the point with logic rather than emotion?
Acceptable losses although tragic are inevitable. I'd rather the losses be men and women who have chosen to take the risk by joining the military and who have been deployed to Iraq rather than it be 1000 civilians in Los Angeles who were just going about their lives.
There would only be "acceptable loss" in Iraq if our reason for invading was valid in any way.
As for what is reported, I think a lot of the info coming out of Iraq now is sketchy at best. I don't think many reporters risk leaving the hotel at this point.
Also remember that the American press in general is concerned only with Americans and deals with the rest of the world very selectively. So I would balance our casualty reports out with estimates of civilian casualties.
