Holy crap. Right off the bat, I heard Lipton speaking your words -- no, not in a schizophrenic kind of way.

our fare share of pain Actually, here it's "fair". That episode wasn't very fair on any of them, was it?

I love it when fanfiction fills in thoughts from one character's point of view, because it gives us a chance to do a closer reading of canon -- in this case, I'm seeing Luz being protective of Lip when he says Buck's fine. Ironically enough, it jumped out at me during Lip's thoughts that neither Buck nor Luz are fine at all. In a broader sense, everyone's petrified that their buddy's going to crack during war; taken in context here, these two are specifically very worried about each other, Luz for Lip because Lip's the mother hen and Lip for Luz because he uses humor to cover.

All that to say what I said in the first two words of this review. It's an English major thing.

At first I thought it was because I was so pathetic that this whole fic seemed to read in my head in Lipton's voice...but now I've decided that it is the sheer amazing of your story that caused it to be so =) Excellent.

First of all, I want to commend you on how well you captured Lipton's voice. Seriously, excellent characterization.
And Luz? Your Luz is love.
This whole piece is fantastic and marvelous and a long string of other glowing adjectives.
