"I don't want a basic live in the suburbs 9 to 5 no goals life."

Technically I work 7:30am to 3 pm, but I live in the suburbs. I find the "no goals life" part very interesting. I have a ton of goals. I hope to write a book, I hope to afford a better house, I hope to raise a family and eventually have kids with kids, I hope to grow in my relationship with my wife forever, become a better teacher....and I could go on and on.

Why the belief that people who lead "normal" lives have no goals?

I completely understand and have since thought again about what I wrote. What that sentence should say is "I'm afraid to ever lose my passion for life." It's merely a teenage statement conveying my apprehension in growing up. I completely respect you Nathan and your choices in life to remain an upright man of God. This particular thought came to me while standing in food avenue watching an unhappy middle aged couple sit there eating crappy pizza hut pizza while their newly bought cleaning supplies kept them company at the table. It just scared me a little bit.. they just seemed so.. loveless, passionless, bland. Maybe you can get where I'm coming from.

PS - I'm kind of looking into becoming a teacher myself and Rachel wants to be one, so yours is a job that I totally dig. The teachers that come into target are normally the ones that don't seem to be in a zombie like state from life. :)

I know you weren't talking about me inparticular, just wondered what you meant. :) You're right though, a lot of people get caught up in things that don't matter or working a job they hate, and it appears their lives are going nowhere.

Oh, and getting a "real" job definitely changes your life. Doing the whole part-time job thing sucks compared to the full-time job thing. But yah, we can talk about what it's like to be a teacher sometime, that'd be fun.
