Reading 2007: Book #1: Speaker for the Dead

Jan 11, 2007 08:41

So I am also keeping track of the books I'm reading this year - I don't have any lofty goals of reading 50 books in a year or anything, I'm just keeping track.  I'm also (obviously) counting books that I've read before, such as Speaker for the Dead, though I did re-read it this year. :P ( Read more... )

Oh, thanks for reminding me - I need to check to see if George R. R. Martin has finally announced a release date for the next book. He said he'd release details in early January.

Nope, apparently still no word.

Have you read the new books in the Ender series (Ender's Shadow, Shadow Puppets, and.. um... Shadow of the Hegemon, I think)? You definitely should if you haven't before.

The newest one is Shadow of the Giant (Shadow the Hegemon is the seventh, I think).

See, I know I was forgetting at least one. And I was too lazy to walk in and check my bookshelf. (That's pretty lazy, isn't it?)

Yeah, I've read all of them. :) Going to reread Xenocide and Children of the Mind, but probably not the Shadow series (as I just read it pretty recently, and it's been ... 12 years? Since I read Xenocide).

I tried reading that one, since I liked Ender's Game, but the beginning was too slow and off-putting. Maybe I'll try again sometime.

I haven't read any sci-fi in a long time. I just finished "Skis Against the Atom", an account of the Norwegian resistance effort against the German nuclear weapons research (located in Norway) in WWII written by one of the fighters himself. Very interesting. My next book was a Christmas gift from my boss' boss' boss, Mr. VPUE himself, to the whole department. "Passionate minds", about Voltaire, Emilie du Chatelet, and the Enlightenment.

I just have to put my 1001 New York Times Crossword Puzzles book down long enough to read something else. :)

Yeah - I "like" the series, but I have some issues with it, so I waited till it was in paperback, and I had time. Bought it a few weeks ago. :)
