But I also have to say that you're lucky that your plan went well. Mine got aborted halfway through and I had no backup. So it went from "romantic hike, alone in the woods" to "Monday night laundry time at the house." S was so caught off-guard by it that I had to ask *twice*, about 3 hours apart.

(The best proposal story I have is from a friend of mine. She was cleaning the cat's litterbox on their anniversary when her husband arrived home from work. With roses. But she wasn't really paying attention, because she was cleaning out the litterbox and didn't have any hands to take the roses. And then he asked her to marry him - but she couldn't even take the ring until she was done with the litterbox.
