I'm feeling your pain, and it's hard watching you watch this season, like a white dwarf about to implode. 'Jump the Shark' is both more interesting and more poignant if you watch the LGM series first (not that that series made more logical sense, but it does give a bit more insight into the Lone Gunmen. Also, Mulder is in the episode 'All About Yves'.)
Even though you haven't gotten to 'Sunshine Days' yet, I can't help but feel that this was the worst moment for the show.
It's funny, I actually Netflixed LGM a few years ago, but I remember almost nothing about it.
Oh, "Sunshine Days," it's just lurking there, waiting for me. Although--I just watched "William," and I'm ready to get back to snarking, rather than crying.
I hate that Carter did this. I forgive him a lot, but this is too much. (Is it crazy that I still want to watch their show anyway? I freaking love the Gunmen, dammit.)
I guess they used the money they were saving on Duchovny to increase the amount of shit blowing up. A fair trade, right? *cries*
In the teaser recap, we see a clip from “Wetwired,” of Mulder and the Gunmen looking at something, and then one from “EBE,” with Byers saying, “That’s why we like you, Mulder. Your ideas are weirder than ours.” *cries more* I really, really miss them. I know not everyone loved the Gunmen (or only liked one or two of them), but I loved all crazy three of them so much. I can't tell you how happy I was to meet Dean Haglund, he is such a cool guy who gives off an amazing amount of just... "happy energy
( ... )
I totally love the Gunmen, except for the fact that they had their characters pretty well assassinated during these two seasons, too. Which made this episode not that upsetting.
Oh, I just posted on "William." I need to go take a nap, because it was exhausting. Despite the fact that it makes me cry like a baby, and because, like you said, there's some implausible genetics going on, I really think it's a well-done episode. Did I mention the crying? Yeah...
I know I've said this before, but I can't believe they're actually dead. It's not that I have some crazy attachment to them (although I do think it's horrible that they were killed off) but that I can't believe anyone on this show is ever really dead. I just can't!
So apparently the Gunmen are out of money and no longer publishing because they spent every last dime trying to find Yves when she went missing. Jimmy tells Morris: “They’re loyal to their friends.” So…they spent all of their money and time and effort looking for this chick, but when Mulder was missing? Nothing?
That is terrible.
But if she’s wearing a face mask, doesn’t that mean that the virus is somehow escaping when she burns it? Wouldn’t people still be at risk, no matter how you disposed of it?
This is no place for logic!
Otherwise, I’m going to assume she’s spending her time writing lovelorn e-mails to Mulder while deep conditioning her hair.
As were we all at that point in time.

It just...doesn't make any sense to kill them. And not only that, but the way they're killed, it's like it's happening in weird slow-motion, where they could clearly escape but choose not to. For no good reason.
This is no place for logic! The motto of season 9.
I miss this era. I think "E.B.E." is going on my list of episodes to watch when I'm done the rewatch. I may have cheated and watched "Quagmire" before I went to bed last night. I needed something after being torn apart by "William." But now that you mention it, I'm definitely going to add "E.B.E." to my own list. Bugs in pens! Scully being told she's hot!
