Rewatch Extra: 3x22 Quagmire

This episode was one I continually went back to during the dark and terrible late seasons of my rewatch. It's like my comfort food episode.

The trees, the water, the overall wetness! Vancouver, I love you.

The Big Blue billboards are gorgeous Americana. I love painted billboards like that, advertising strange little things instead of nationwide ( Read more... )

They're the Postal Service of intellectual courtship. Inclement weather will not stop them.

Christ, yes. Nailed it!

I also adore this episode. The Talk on the Rock remains one of the best nervously shippiest moments EVER. It has tons more weight for me than that plastic New Year's kiss. Like you, I've been watching the first 3 seasons and marveling at how blatantly shippy they are - eps like 'The Host' are just riddled with longing and inuendo.

This conversation also indicates one of the moments when I feel they both commit to keeping each other at arm's length - setting up the tone for the XF pinnacle of the 4th season.

It's a little crazy, right? They're so blatant, they really do make me nervous to watch sometimes. It's almost like I think, 15 years later, Chris Carter is going to realize how shippy they are, then somehow rip them away from us. (How would this happen? I don't know. Time travel? Black magic? But it's similar to the feeling I get when I watch "Arrested Development." Just utter astonishment that it exists, that it was given to us on the TV.)

Oh, sweet season 4. I'm hoping to get at least one S4 episode watched and written up by the end of the week.

I agree about understanding the peg leg conversation. It's funny-- I had the line "It's just, the truth or a white whale, what difference does it make?" as my gmail status and my roommate, who hasn't watched XF in years, IMed me and said, "Is that from that episode with the dog?", hee. Oh, Queequeg.

I'm really glad you did this post-- I'm gonna shoot you an email later tonight, or tomorrow.

When Dr. Faraday is shooting Mulder's theories down, Scully looks like she just wants to take him back to the cabin, tuck him into bed and make him some cocoa.
You're using 'make him some cocoa' as a euphemism, right? ;)

I love when Scully gets all protective of Mulder's insanity. Like in X-Cops when she's all "you can talk to me all you want about werewolves" or however that quote goes. She is so in love with him, even though she really does think he's crazy more than half the time (especially this early in the game, later on it becomes her trying to save him from completely fucking up his life, even though she knows what he's saying is probably true). Scully loves Mulder's crazy brain. *snuggles them*

What are your thoughts on the final shot of Big Blue? Awesome capper to an episode, showing us that there is hope? Slap in the face from one of the few times Scully could have been right? Somewhere in-between?

Shockingly, no! (But maybe that, too.) Although I'd be happy to add it to my collection of ridiculous euphemisms, along with "reading his tea leaves." I think the rain and the cabins in the episode just made me want them to curl up with big mugs of hot chocolate, marshmallows on top.

I love when Scully gets all protective of Mulder's insanity.
Because she understaaaands him! Like no one else can! That's one of my favorite moments, that line in "X-Cops." It's like she's his interpreter, she has to listen to the craziness and distill it down to something that the rest of the world can hear.

What are your thoughts on the final shot of Big Blue?
I can't believe I left that out! I even had a note jotted down about it! I think it's a little cheesy, actually. The CGI is pretty lame, and I think it's definitely a visual misstep in an otherwise lovely episode.

I guess thematically, it works as something in-between. There's hope even if you never see actual proof. And yet Scully is ( ... )

OH I LOVE THIS EPISODE WAY TOO MUCH. My brain's a little fried and I'm super exhausted (it's been a busy weekend!) to give it a classic ridiculous and unnecessarily long Farah reply, but I will say that this:

“…and you know how I feel about kennels.” I’m incredibly fond of the idea of them having this conversation.
WARMS MY HEART.

More to come later, hopefully!!

Argh, no time to comment on what I want, not even close! I love that "you made me drop my toad!" line so much, though. Also, drive-by commenting...

*uses appropriate icon* Seriously though, ace description; they so are!

Also, I love how Duchov says “embarrassed.”
Haha, me too! I thought I was the only one! It's one of the few times in which you hear the New Yorker in him. (I also love how he says "stuuuupid" to Crump in "Drive".)

This episode makes my heart ache a little for Mulder.
Yeah, same here. Especially that incredibly bittersweet scene at the end near the lake!

“I know the difference between expectation and hope. Seek and ye shall find, Scully.”
One of my favorite Mulder lines. Seriously.

But she wants to figure it out, and that's what this whole conversation means to me. Apart from the content of the actual conversation, the fact that Scully feels comfortable enough to broach the subject with Mulder is huge.Very true! Especially ( ... )

You're really surprised we feel the same way? (See also: "married," as in "Mad About You was about a married couple.")

I love it when you talk Mulder to me. Honestly, please never stop?
I'll never stop! As long as you promise to continue leaving me long, multiple comments.

In short: LOVE. Must dash! *cries*
Don't cry! I hope you're having SUCH a wonderful time in LA this week! You went to the Queen Mary today, right??

Heh, I really shouldn't be anymore, should I? We are constantly sharing the same brain! (Yes, you hear it there, too! Hee.)

As long as you promise to continue leaving me long, multiple comments.
As soon as I get home, I'll be home and spamming you in my usual way. Enjoy your Zellie vacation, lol!

We did go to the Queen Mary yesterday, yes! It was very cool, even though I turned half my arm and neck into mild lobster (because I'm an idiot like that).
