LiveJournal: Why We Oppose SOPA and PIPA

Jan 17, 2012 17:09

Since 1999, LiveJournal has been a safe harbor of self-expression and creativity, with the most substantial privacy policies of any social site. We believe the Internet must remain a place that is free to use, free to explore, and free to express.

NOT FAIR!!!
Why does American idiocy affect the rest of the world more than anything good coming out of America?

The idea to stop copyright infringements is fine, but next thing you know, nobody can use the internet because of all the sites getting shut down!

May i remind the US that what they're doing affects anyone who uses the internet... which is pretty much EVERYONE!!

Stupid pricks!

Okay, rant over.

I'm an American and I support this rant. We have the Most Stupid, Fucked-Up Congress Ever right now. Believe me, the average American cares. Remember Occupy Wall Street and the associated protests? Our leaders believe they are not accountable, apparently. :(

And your rant is the very reason why you should also go rant to your country's leaders for them to put international pressure on the U.S. to not pass the bills.

Because no one would be able to use the internet, that affects international commerce amongst other things which would affect YOUR COUNTRY. Your leaders should be worried about this too and going to the U.N. up in arms.

they were expecting to pass these things with minimal debate(most Congresscritters aren't great with the interpipes, and didn't expect, if you'll pardon me, a shitstorm of protest from people like us.(Of course, I'm paraphrasing from Daily Kos...not unbiased, but as Hardison says "Age of the geek, baby!"."
Keep calling, keep writing, keep pushing!

Riiight...
Livejournal has made another million or two by fulling people..
YES! yeeeah! sure... most certainly "won",
if by "won" you mean filling the pockets of a Russian oligach.

Are you aware of the fact that
that LJ is owned by a russian billionare w. a shady past?!

So basicly they could #realocate#(in a leagal way of speaking) practicly in no time at all if they wanted to. They are simply milking you, and thouthands of other for PR reasons.

ps. I have no doubt about yours(and other users) good intentions, they just couldn't be more missguided, than in case of Livejournal.

I suppose it's hard to have a fortune with a completely clean past...probably most people don't, which is something I have to make peace with since I can't hunt my own food or craft my own computer components. Obviously, Livejournal has business reasons for not wanting that kind of regulation but just because their interests only intersect with our interests, doesn't mean stopping these bills is not a win for free speech.

Glad you're joining the fight, LJ. Only wish there was an "opt in" way for us to "black out" our own journals.

exactly they should have a way for us to black out our journals to show our support!

I'm posting info from this site today: http://sopastrike.com/strike

And a few other things... but i've already announced that I'll only be posting about SOPA & PIPA today and nothing else.

But yes, being able to join the blackout would be nice. I did at least upload and switch my default icon to the one I'm using here.
