Re: Confused about anti-abortion opinion? owlbeanon May 2 2012, 22:39:41 UTC
you're missing a very large point. the important thing is to continue pressing for more elaborate and information sex education

but the important thing is that it doesn't matter why a woman wants to terminate her pregnancy, she should have the option regardless. reasons don't matter. it's no one's business but hers why and so "risky sex" shouldn't even matter.

yes, their energy would be best used to promote sexual health awareness and smart sexual choices.

my point is that "risky sexual choices" are up to each individual person. and making "risky sexual choices" shouldn't be a reason to deny someone access to healthcare, including abortions.

I know! I've been in and out of this thread for two hours now. I'm actually kind of sad that I got a notice of entry paper from my landlord and I have to step away from the computer to make the place presentable.

This is way more exciting than doing dishes.

For a fun history lesson, throughout basically the entirety of human history, the earliest anyone thought a fetus was actually alive was quickening, when you can first feel it move. The idea that life begins at conception is less than a hundred years old. It was very common even until recently for doctors to prescribe medication to restore blocked menses, because "not getting your period" was seen as a problem that could result in pregnancy, and even when abortion started to be seen as wrong it was still perfectly acceptable to cure the problem of blocked menses before it led to pregnancy.

The life begins at conception argument started at basically the same time as the birth control pill became available. Make of that what you will.

Are you going to run a fund raiser for a conservative backed group after this? I seriously doubt it.

LJ has made a lot of irritating decisions concerning format, etc over the years and I have gritted my teeth and gone with it. But if you are going to start touting a liberal political agenda I'm going to have to consider finding another platform for my fandom work.

women's health services are not part of a liberal political agenda

Women's health services aren't (or shouldn't be), but Planned Parenthood certainly is.

Oh, I'm not the only one who got that? I wasn't sure if it was a mistake or a gift that I hadn't received a notification for. :D

The two-months of paid time is a little vgift related program that's been around a while -- if you are the recipient of $10 in purchased vgifts (not free ones LJ offers from time to time) within a two-week period, then you get two months of paid time.

So in this case, since you chose to give yourself the $10 gift, you got the two-month bonus. :)
