Catch it by the scruff gently to calm it like the child's mother would and you should be able to have an easier look at it's hindquarters without so much squirming.

If it is old enough you should be able to tell.

[He's gentle, and although it takes a few attempts he gets the little kitten on it's back, and makes no bones about checking.]

If you think it is it may be, for it it were female you would be certain. They're easier to tell apart than the males are.
