Rose Tyler Gets Smart

Rose felt very much responsible for John. Over the past few days, she'd shown him just about every room and resource available. She was loyal to a fault, even making sure the Metacrisis had food at each meal. His humanity was dangerously juvenile; John occasionally forgot that he needed to eat at all! Thankfully, he never ceased to be grateful. He always flashed Rose that familiar smile, and rambled something charming about the food. She was happy to help.
When Saturday evening came, the blonde Companion crossed the second floor balcony like clockwork. Supper time. She arrived at room 206, and knocked forcefully. The half-Time Lord hadn't gotten his sleep patterns right, either.
"John?" she called. "Doctor?" With a sigh, Rose grabbed the door handle, surprised to find it unlocked. She turned the knob without considering consequences. "Rise and shine, sleepy- OH!" Rose shouldn't have been surprised, but she was. The Human Doctor wasn't there. His flatmate, however, was certainly home.
"'ello, Maxwell. Sorry!"
