If the car causes pain, skip it. I love my Subaru but it is still new enough (3 years) to not show problems. My mom has been very happy with her Hundai. Honda had some problems for a few years (our Civic had strut problems that were barely found under warrenty, door lock broke, trunk release in the cab never worked right) but it has served well (14 years and counting). Quite a few recalls as well.
It wasn't pain per se. More like it felt odd. I don't remember feeling the same when I sat in the one in the dealership with the leatherette interior. Maybe that is what I go with if I go in that direction.
I've owned a RAV4 for 10 years now. LOVE mine. Taken it to ProgPower and back. And NF and back a few times. She is still ticking. Decent milage and she has gotten me home in a few snow falls. I'd love to read your thoughts once you test it out.
