BUT OF COURSE. LET ME GIVE YOU A FURTHER NON-SPOILERY EXTRACT.thelovemafiaOctober 21 2010, 15:45:58 UTC
The entire book is from Gen's point of view, so here's an exchange between him and the Magus later in the book:
(p.s. remember the magus took him out of prison so his skills could be put to better use elsewhere.)
"You think I would take you back to the prison?' the magus said.
"You think I would trust you?" I answered, unfairly.
He hadn't given me any reason not to trust him [...]
"[Our pursuers] will kill you just the same," he said, "more painfully probably."
...
(Gen) "You don't have time to waste forcing me," I pointed out.
He threw up his hands. "Fine!" he bellowed. "Go die on the swords of [our pursuers]! Be drawn, be quartered, be hung, I don't care. Spend the rest of your life in one of their dungeons. What possible difference would it make to me?"
*beams* Thank you for being lovely, and for the good wishes ♥
Glad you liked the link! :) I'd follow the author on LJ, but - I have to be in the right mood to read her posts sometimes (she's so bubbly and lively).
AWWWW, GEN, indeed. ♥ He needs hugs. And the occasional smack to keep that ego in check.
Okay, I know the cute little Neal!icon you have all over this LJ is a million times cuter than the silly LJ "userhead" (seriously, what.) b-but I saw it and thought of you, therefore you should have it. IDEK.
It'll probably not even work with your layout, now that I think about it. X.x; Bawww. I don't want it to override your own icon thingies, b-but perhaps it'll work in communities?
ANYWAY. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I DON'T THINK THINGS THROUGH. Or, basically, this is what happens when I need an excuse to comment here and flail at you. :')
Finally read and finished The Thief! I reviewed it on Goodreads, giving it 4 out of 5 stars. So yeah, I loved it. :)
Here's my review:
What a fun adventure! Gen is a sly protagonist, and I loved watching him cross wits with the Magus as the two men learned to work together. I enjoyed their world as well--with a quibble or two. For example, if there are inaccurate guns in this world that are effective only in mass-fire situations, they should be smooth-barrel musket type guns, not rifles. (Rifles have always been scary accurate because they have barrels with, you know, rifling.) But I'm trying to ignore stuff like that. This book is so damn enticing that I know I should set my quibbles aside!

I sighed. I hadn't intended to offend him.

Also, YOUR LIFE. Wow. I hope all of that got sorted out, especially the crisis - that sounds rough.
Gen: ... THERE IS NOTHING TO STEAL HERE!
Aaaww, GEN. ♥
