I think this is the injury I am on guard against with MR Prednizone(Tatum). I know it is very pricey, and involves a long recovery time. :(

Poor Lucy.

What happens if you just leave it alone and let her figure out how to get by on three legs? Dogs do fine on three legs when one is amputated. I'm not recommending it, but I've thought about going that route if it happened to Tate.

I'm so sorry. Sending mucho love to you and Lucy,

Maybe maybe. She's still pretty young so I'm hoping she heals on her own. The thing about the surgery is they wire up the knee joint so that it heals on its own and the scar tissue becomes the new force holding it together.

So really the brace does the same thing. It keeps the knee in place and lets it heal. The brace is only a few hundred $$, so that's probably what I'll do if nothing changes.

Thank you for your concern!!

The brace sounds like a good way to go. Of course my vet only mentioned the $3000 surgery, but then my vet loves money because she needs it to go on vacation every time my dog really needs medical attention!

That is terrible! I don't have any ideas, I just hope that things work out.

She'd better get to spend her evenings 'round the camp fire with a piping hot mug of cocoa.

My dog Dora (home in MT) has had knee surgery 2 times for a seperated tendon, and it hasn't helped her a bit. I'd go for the brace - also, do you have a good hollistic vet? I know of a great one in Portland - they have great herbal pain killers and all of that jazz. Also - glucosamine (Costco) will go a long way to helping tendons and ligaments protect for the future. Safe for Lucy, too! XOXO to you both!

Thank you much. I'm looking into getting her this:

Barring that I've heard Costco has some good stuff.

No insurance. Didn't even know there was such a thing. And thanks for the tidbit on your surgeries. I'm pretty sure the brace will be the thing.
