Comments: Just
as I predicted, the cat is now out of the bag. We were going over our
originals and showing 'em off to a couple friends, a COUPLE OF FRIENDS
mind you, who hadn't heard us yet when, before we knew it, there was a
15 to 20 person crowd littered about Kenny's back and front yards -
beer and all. A quote from my February 19 log states, "I've spent the
last year circulating hype about us and getting the word out, and I
think we're arriving at a place of natural progression where eventually
this thing may yet wildly explode out of our hands if we don't lock
down a single plan of action soon." Looks like I was right....big
surprise. The best part is that since that log, we've gotten quite
objective with our plans, and have since decided on making our gig
debut in mid to late April, thus we were not caught totally unawares.
The crowd kinda took us off guard at first, but not being ones to shy
away from an audience, we decided to rock 'em out anyway. Though we
were in a bit of a bind, tonight made several things crystal fucking
clear to us: *our adlib and musical rapport are now at a performance
level - we came up with a new song idea and played it, vocals and
everything, on the spot in front of a live audience, *our songs have
appeal - we rocked everyone's effin socks off, *we are at the end of
our preparation....one way or another - if we don't go public soon, the
public may literally start show up on our doorstep. If any of you who
showed up tonight are reading this, don't think for a second that we're
sore about it. You may have helped give us the definate sign, not to
mention a little kick in the pants, that we needed. Thank you VERY much
for the kind words everyone, and special thanks to Rob for hanging out
and talking shop with us afterward. I think tonight was The Vortex's
way of letting us know that we're ready to go. -mad

Comments:
I think everyone caught the hint after last night and stayed away this
time. The powers which reside over Kenny's place weren't too
particularly pleased with yestarday's debacle, but we've managed to
placate ourselves fairly well. Tonight we concentrated on locking down
final versions of Meth and Children. While aaalllmost finished, they
still have a little fat that needs to be trimmed here and there, but we
get closer to the mark everytime we play 'em. We managed to spawn yet
another song idea during the jam session today. The way things are
moving, we should have at least three originals come next month. With
three originals to start with, we'll be gigging in time for summer.
Rock on. -mad

Comments: It's hella
great to see our brother band, Becoming Dead hone their craft. For
those of you who aren't yet in the know, Becoming Dead is an local,
experimental psychobilly project consisting of long time Vortex
friends, Harley Pruett on vocals and bass, Bob Broadway on guitar, and
Richard Broadway on drums. While having excellent musician rapport, the
Dead haven't really had the opportunity to hone themselves like Vortex
has...which is an inequitty all of us at Vortex are pretty set on
rectifiying. Special thanks to the makeshift mic stand we made out of
cheap tape and a mop handle! -mad
