Call me Old Lady

Aug 14, 2008 08:53

Sometimes, I think I'm becoming an Old Lady despite my young age. You know, the one who's constantly bitching about the new fashion, music, movies, etc.? Princess, please cover yourself with something more modest, you look like a whore. Group X, you're not making music, only barbarian sounds. Righteous Kill, despite your celebrity cast, you are ( Read more... )

Would you mind if I linked this on my LJ? YES, YES, YES. My God, the new crop of pop stars probably don't even sing on their albums, it's so damn synthesized. They can rock that slutty outfit, but can they rock? I'm with the guy who created Naruto: he made Rock Lee to inspire people to work hard because kids nowadays don't think it's worth it, that's it's uncool. And everywhere, it's the little shits who are portrayed as the cool kids. One of my biggest pet peeves. The old at heart should stick together... with clothes on.

Of course you can link! I'm flattered. Sometimes I tell myself I should stop using my LJ to whine about things (who want to read people whining?) but it's great when someone shares my opinion. I feel less alone!

If you talk about American Idol and the like, sadly I can't say because I steel clear of reality TV shows. But I only have to open to MTV or MuchMusic to be convinced. What is the new group...Girlicious? I think it is. My eyes bleed, ny ears die. "You wanna be flat like me" the poor dear sings half naked. Sure I wish, but not if it means faking sex in front of a camera and calling it "dancing". *shivers*

On a lighter note, Naruto does lots of efforts too, if I remember well. Of course he has a magic fox in the belly, so yeah, Rock Lee is the win:)

You don't even need American Idol. I get it from the radio! I'm proud to be among those who have no idea what the hell Girlicious (a name that will grant them a place in hell, I assure you) is. Ignorance is bliss, indeed.

I know exactly what you mean. Our culture is hardly anything but crap nowadays. But, on the other side, it frustrates me to no end when I see something I would have adored as a child or teenager that means nothing to me now. The old "Why didn't *I* have that when I was their age!" rant.

*pat pat*

But what do the people that *make* the crap think?! I refuse to believe they're all money fanatics, ready to sacrifice ethics for cash, like if the degradation of morals was something inevitable with your rise to power.

Something is clear: if it works, then it's because it please people. And I sound snobbish. And then you can attack me saying "if it displeases you so, do something about it instead of whining". I would but I have no idea what to do. I feel powerless in front of a culture that goes down the drain.

Strictly TV-speaking, I think our childhood programs were far better than what they propose now...at least in QuebecT_T

This is Hollywood, honey. That's exactly what it's about. Take the movie you're referring to for example: Why cast such big actors in something so trite? Money. They'll bring in an audience.

You rarely see someone with integrity make it in Hollywood. Peter Jackson is one exception. He desperately wanted to make LOTR but no one was willing to back him up with the immense amount of money on something that may or may not be a success. Many companies tried to talk him into cramming it into two movies and he admits to considering, but ultimately couldn't make himself go through with compromising the story that way. He waited until someone was willing to take the risk. That's what integrity equates to in Hollywood: Are you willing to risk losing money?

But then why not cast them in something good? Why must it be more and more about violence=power? I can understand about great actors being lured by cash. But those who make the movie...I get it, the great actors will bring audience, so cash. And violence and guns is very fashion these days, so more cash. But they could do so much more better without it being a stupid story about guns=power .

*sigh* I know. But you'd think they take a hint after Peter. The risk is worth it! Good story=great movie. If you try to butcher it, it won't work (ex: so many fantasy movies that disappointed).
