Paulina is my Nana's real name.  The one on her birth certificate: her Christian name.  Paulina Maria Castro.  For 25 years my mother thought she was Mary Lucille Castro/Bradley.  This Christmas, Nana revealed it was Maria Lucia, she just anglicized it like her siblings.  Then Rose, Nana's sister, told us all it was really Paulina Maria.  Lucille\ ( Read more... )

When I flew over I was making around 2,100 U.S. Dollars a month converted from Korean Won.  That's legit.  I'd be able to back school loans and save for next year.  In  2 months the won has dropped 40%.  That means I've gone from 25,000 a year to 18,000 a year.  The lesson I've learned is that I need to read more Korean news.  Because whatever is ( Read more... )

Today my kids said I had boom hair, as in an explosion on my head.  I told them that I did because I'm the Boom King (He's the Boom King).  They've also said I look like broccoli. Five years after Noelle and Laura called me broccoli  I still don't have a good comeback.  But I don't need one because (tell me now!) I'm the Boom King.

Incredibly my vote for may count this year.  Just a few days ago, Sarah Palin, the most logical woman on earth, visited Omaha, Nebraska for the McCain campaign.  Now, Nebraska has not voted for a Democrat since 1964 when it voted for LBJ (who was more popular than God at the time: see below).  Apparently McCain thinks Omaha, and not Nebraska (a ( Read more... )

Koreans don't really get sarcasm very well it seems.  All the foriegners got observed becuase we're new. After my meeting with the woman who observed me, I told Gemma a Korean who sits next to me "Well that's it. I'm fired."  She looked so worried that I couldn't even pretend joke any more I felt so bad.
