Author's Notes: I like the thought of Anna having questionable contacts/connections. Isn't that practically canon, anyways? Cross posted to Operation Chuck
Chuck may have dismissed Anna's offer to contact a 'reasonable guy' to take care of their Tang problem but Morgan wasn't about to give up an easy solution. "Are you sure this guy can help us?" he asked Anna. "And, you know, he won't do anything... illegal?"
"Oh, grow a pair, Morgan. This guy is a professional; he'll get the job done."
It was just after midnight and Anna was leading Morgan by his hand to a 24-hour McDonald's. The bar crowd wasn't out yet and it was too late for most teens so the parking lot was empty and through the windows they could see someone in a uniform mopping the floors. "Good thing we're meeting him at a Mickey Dee's, I could use a snack."
Inside the restaurant Morgan looked around trying to spot their guy. There was a skinny, nervous dude mopping the floor, a big dude eating a salad, and a bored looking teen manning the register. "Where is he?" he whispered to Anna. "Are we early? Can I get a burger while we wait?"
"Morgan," Anna sighed and rolled her eyes. "Try not to embarrass me, okay?" She led him to the counter and he eagerly grabbed money from his pocket and elbowed ahead of her,
"Yeah, I'd like a double quarter pounder with cheese, a large fries, and is the milkshake machine still on?"
"No," the teen said and managed to look even more disinterested.
"Okay then, I'll have a large Coke as long as it's not Pepsi otherwise I'll have a grape soda!"
"No."
"What? What do you mean, 'no'?" Morgan noticed he wasn't keying in his order, "No, you don't have pop either? Or..."
"No, you're having salad and water. You're too fat."
"What?" The Russian accent made 'fat' sound like 'fet' but the message was clear, "You can't do that! I'm a customer!"
He keyed the order into the register and stared a challenge at Morgan. "So?" He looked past Morgan at Anna, "Please do not tell me you are dating this?"
Anna laughed uncomfortably, "Morgan, this is Lex, the guy we came here to see," she kicked Morgan in the leg. "Lex, we... need a favour."
"Ah." Lex looked at Morgan again, "That will be five dollars and sixty three cents."
"Whoa! He's cheap!" Morgan said with a grin as he counted his cash, "I thought it would be way more." Anna covered her face with her hands.
"That's for the salad, fat man." Lex snatched all the money from Morgan's hand and dumped it in the register without counting it. "Go sit down."
Anna dragged Morgan away by a hand before he could protest too much at being robbed of his pocket change and sat him down at a booth far away from the only other customer. "Where did you meet this guy, Anna? He's a jerk!"
"Shh, keep your voice down! We're in the same martial arts club."
"I'm not comfortable with this situation. He's a kid, Anna! Does he even understand the complexities of the adult world?"
"Do you want to be Tang's bitch?"
"Well, no, but..."
"Your order, sir." Lex sat down next to Morgan, pinning him between the wall of the booth and his body and shoved a boxed salad and a bottle of water at him, "What do you need, Anna?"
Anna stared at Morgan pointedly until he opened his salad container and morosely poked at the lettuce. There wasn`t even a packet of dressing. She smiled sweetly at Lex, "We have a situation at the Buy More. Someone evil has taken power and he's making our life hell."
"Ah," Lex settled back in the booth. He adopted the attitude of boredom again but his eyes were alive with something Morgan felt would be best described as malice aforethought. "I am afraid I cannot help you, Anna. I have promised my sister I would not do this sort of work anymore."
Morgan choked on his water, "Are you kidding me? You're trying to sound all gangster but you're, what, sixteen? You're just a kid, you can't help us!" Anna kicked Morgan under the table,
"I'm SO sorry about my coworker, Lex. This is his first time..."
"I'm sure he has many 'first times' ahead of him yet," Lex sneered. He drummed his fingers on the table and stared hard at Morgan, then Anna, then closed his eyes as he came to a decision, "I cannot. I promised my sister."
"Weaksauce, dude. Our lives are hanging in the balance, here!"
"Tch, you are full of exaggeration. Quit if you are so desperate to get away."
"Quit the Buy More? " Morgan looked horrified. "Are you kidding me? Where would I go?"
Lex stood up and pecked Anna on the cheek, "I am sorry, Anna."
"Isn't there anything you can do?" Anna gave him her most endearing smile, "Anything at all?" She ran a hand down Lex's leg, all suggestion and promise. Lex rolled his eyes and leaned over to whisper,
"If my sister found out..."
"She won't..."
"Tch. Lana always knows."
"Please? We need to get this guy fired," Anna patted the front of Lex's shirt but suddenly he was stiff and formal.
"Fired? That is all you want?" he sneered. He removed Anna's hand and firmly placed it on the table, "Seduce him and take photos. Plant illegal porn in his locker. Get all the staff to come down with 'green flu' and refuse to come into work. You do not need me for this."
"Those are all good ideas, dude!"
"Pff." Lex made a gun with his fingers and pretended to shoot Morgan, "Eat your salad, fat man. Anna, I'll see you in class." He sauntered back towards the register and effortlessly jumped over the counter.
"Well, it wasn't a complete loss? We've got some good ideas now," Morgan said. "And I now know I really do hate salad as much as I thought I did."
"Aw," Anna moaned. "I`m so embarassed we weren`t hardcore enough for him."
"Hey, it's no big loss! We can do this." Morgan looked resolute, "I don't exactly know how, but he's right, we don't need outside help to fix this problem. Harry Tang is going down."
Anna looked askance at Morgan, as if seeing him in a new light, "I believe in you, Morgan."
"Aw, thanks. So, um, what do you think that guy thought we wanted him to do?"
She looked at him a forced, innocent expression, "Um, I don't know?"
"Because, you know, it sounded like he thought we wanted Tang killed..."
"Ha! As if! " Her laugh was nervous, "C'mon, Morgan, would a kid working at a McDonald's really be an assassin? That's crazy!"
"Yeah, you're right. Let's call Chuck and see he has any ideas for getting rid of Tang."
