OK so this is something else cross-posted from elsewhere. I hit 10k followers on my Tumblr page so I wanted to do something to celebrate. I got people to prompt me episodes from each season and I'm going to make or write something to go with each one. The first was Bugs, 1x08. Over the years, this scene has remained fascinating to me; John and Dean finding the letter, John issuing the ultimatum, and Sam choosing to leave. I loved how you mentioned Sam's thoughts about John knowing/or knowing exactly how Sam would react when he said "If you go, don’t you ever come back."

Also I adored how you bookended this with two completely emotions; Sam telling himself he's happy, and then by the end admitting that he's not.

Yes I'm totally fascinated by this as well! I feel like Show did really well at kind of giving us enough information to imagine it though, it's such a kind of fundamental event to the show's early seasons in particular. Anyway I'm glad you liked this, it was just a little fic but I was happy with how it turned out. Thanks for the comment!
