It's the sugar :) No really, take a look at the back of that Tazo carton, or at the Starbucks website. They post all their nutritional data and their chai mix is FULL of sugar.
It's sugar content isn't THAT bad - in moderation. 17g in a serving (4oz.) And the organic Tazo doesn't used refined sugar. So, I allow myself one chai latte a day.
Of course, when I first discovered it at Starbucks, I went hog-wild before I had the good sense to look up the nutritional values on starbucks' website. OOPS! :)
The sweetness is ok, but I'm partial to the spices in it. :) I haven't been to Uno's. I'll plan on checking it out. kieser tells me I need to try the chai latte at his coffee shop - he claims it's better than starbucks! :)

... HEB sells a pile of designer teas; one brand is "stash". You can buy a box of 32 chai tea-bags for <$4.00 (Cost of ONE Starbucks Chai). Then, at home warm 16 - 24 oz of 2% milk on stovetop w/one tea bag (take string off, let bag poach in liquid)- dont let it break into a boil, simply as hot as you need it ... The color wont quite be carmel/brown, although you WILL have full flavor.
