Summary: 'War changes things,Hermione.' That's what he said, but he didn't mention feeling nothing.
Numb
That’s what war does to you. You become numb. You want to feel but you can’t. ‘War changes things, Hermione.’ That’s what he said, but he didn’t mention feeling nothing. You want to feel again. Anything, you would even consider feeling pain.
You’re standing by the shore. Eyes closed, feet digging into the sand. But you don’t feel the roughness of the sand, you don’t feel the gust of the wind. Slowly you open your eyes, hoping that you can see the world as you see it before. Not black, not white. The rain starts to pour, hard. And you made the decision that the rain was the best excuse to cry. Because then, no one will see you. No one will see Hermione Granger defeated, no, not again. Your tears conjoin with the rain. Both so bitter.
Your knees start to weaken so you buried yourself in the sand. You stayed there, not moving, not even an inch. You didn’t care that you were lying in the middle of the shore. You didn’t care that you were getting hit by the cruel rain. And you didn’t care that your breathing was uneven, that the rain was slowly suffocating you. It didn’t matter anyway. You can’t feel anything, you’re numb.
You’re soaking wet. And you know that you’re shivering from the pouring rain. But once again you didn’t care. You need to see him, just this once. This one last time. You apparated to a place you know so well. Then you see yourself standing in front of his grave, just mere inches from his grave. You knelt down because your knees are betraying you. Always betraying you. You trace his name written in the headstone. And when you were at the last letter, Y. You broke down. You miss his stormy grey eyes. You miss the way his blonde hair glisten in the sun, the feel of his lips to yours. You miss the way how he shows that he loves you, even if there were no words spoken. You miss him so much. So much that you can almost feel the pain. Almost. But you can’t because you’re too numb. And you long to feel again.
You broke into small sobs. Your tears flowing freely. You were covered in dirt and soaking wet, your eyes sting from the tears that you’ve shed. But still, you didn’t care. And when you think you’d had enough, enough of this insanity. You stand from where you were kneeling and gave his grave one last look.
“Thank You Draco, for everything. For sacrificing your life for me. For loving me. For letting me in. And I hope that you’ll forgive me. Because I know you hate what I have become. But like you said War changes things. I love you. Always have and always will.”
And with a soft pop, you were gone.
