Family due in this evening phoned at 5.30 pm to say they'd not be coming after all. Husband promised faithfully that he'd send a cheque for the (not inconsiderable) balance owed for their non-stay as they'd let us know far too late for us to try to re-let the rooms.

It would, wouldn't it?

Consensus on a forum I haunt for people running holiday acommodation is "don't hold your breath" re the cheque.

Twice would be nice, but at least you won't be out of pocket!

We'll be slightly down, as they booked two rooms, but at least we managed to let the more expensive of the two and we have their deposit towards the other so it's not much.
