Americans, wine and a fic update

On Saturday we said goodbye to a lovely Californian couple who have now set our record for the longest stay so far - 11 nights, one night longer than the previous record and four more than they’d originally planned. They were repeat visitors, having stayed with us twice during our first season, so they felt like old friends. As they’re wine buffs ( Read more... )

Nothing wrong with pizza and DVD when you're in the mood.

Looking forward to more TRacey!

Pizza and DVDs have become our favourite winter recreation.

Sadly, we've watched our way through five entire seasons of Babylon 5. We're now arguing about what will succeed it. He favours Farscape. I'm not so keen.

Alas! I finished my MPhil, and thus access to the Babylon 5 Monday club, half-way through season 3, and have never seen the rest. One of my many impossible goals in life is to re-make it, skipping the guff-filled spirituality episodes, and employing extras who can actually act.

How about Jeeves and Wooster, or Buffy the Vampire Slayer?

Jeeves and Wooster? Hmm, interesting idea. I'll mention it to himself.

I'm also leaning towards the Jeremy Brett version of Sherlock Holmes, which is dirt cheap at the moment.

Much as we both like Buffy neither of us feel like re-watching a whole series at once.

The real solution, of course, would be UK satellite TV. We're investigating the cost.

Your guests sound like good sorts, though, even if making a deal of work. But I imagine you're glad to have the place to yourself again!

Look forward to the fic!

The guests were great and they have very good taste in wine.

It is nice to be on our own once more, though.

I'm trying to figure out what a veggie English breakfast would be like. I keep stalling when my memory recalls bacon, sausage, and kippers.

It is a bit mind boggling, isn't it? My Father-in-Law still hasn't got over it after 17 years.

You can use veggie sausage and bacon meat subsitutes if you want to. We've never been that keen. Just as well, as in France they're impossible to find. Our version has always consisted of scrambled egg, fried mushrooms, grilled tomatoes and toast, with more toast to follow accompanied by liberal helpings from a jar of Mother-in-Law's wonderful orange marmalade. The mushrooms this time were wild ones of a variety that we call Hedgehog mushrooms in the UK and the French call Pied de Mouton. Delicious.
