Guess who's still alive

This chick!

I don't know. Doctor Who goes off and I suddenly don't have anything to say. *shakes fist at Doctor*

Went to Comic Con, of course, and had fun and walked 900ish miles and came back and looked like this:

(only less furry)

I'm on hiatus at work, which mostly means I spend my days playing too many hours of Football Manager (damn you, steam) (oh, man, I can pre-order FM2011). Though I do have other things, and I really need to remember to get paid for those things (self, do your freaking invoice already ... so you can pre-order FM2011).

I was very, very close to going forward on a biggish (for me) project, but unexpected things happened, and I've put it on hold. Maybe it will still go forward as I'd planned, but maybe it will go forward in a way I never quite expected. I was kind of getting used to calling it an "internet narrative presentation" (sally, for short, or maybe ted. I haven't decided) in my head, which just sounds deliciously pretentious. I suppose I can come up with something else to fill that slot.

I have a new niece on the way (Violet). She's due any moment now, really. This is v, v exciting, of course. Sadly, my sister is in Fairbanks, and I am not, and so I do not know when I shall meet my newest protegee of evil niece. Really sadly, I'll have met none of my protegees of evil nieces and nephew. I hope to go to Alaska for my nephew's third birthday next spring, where I will meet her. And Lilli's moving back to Colorado from Alabama maybe next year, so that should increase my chances of seeing her, provided I get around to visiting home sometime soon.

I have a Doctor Who thought (settle down there). It's something that's been bothering me since the finale, and it's not so much something about Who, but something about me. I both long for and fear the revelation of who River Song actually is. I do not fear it because "they'll do it WRONG" because I really quite completely trust Moffat to pull off an explanation that is both logical and satisfying, but because I think my own expectations will disappoint me. I am always, always wrong about things like this, and yet I allow expectations to take root, and I know this, I know this, and ... my brain is stupid.

This guy is totally my most favorite guy in sports right now -- largely because of this picture:

Omar will eat your soul. FYI.

Just saw that Tony Curtis has died at 85. I will be watching "Some Like It Hot" today - Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon, and Marilyn Monroe, what could possibly be better?

I'm rereading "Treasure Island", because, well, because. I haven't read it since I was a kid, of course, and I guess I'm just in the mood for pirate hijinks. And I am having a great deal of fun with it.

"Jim," he said at length, "you saw that seafaring man today?"

"Black Dog?" I asked.

"Ah! Black Dog," says he. "HE'S a bad un; but there's worse that put him on. Now, if I can't get away nohow, and they tip me the black spot, mind you, it's my old sea-chest they're after; you get on a horse - you can, can't you? Well, then, you get on a horse, and go to - well, yes, I will! - to that eternal doctor swab, and tell him to pipe all hands - magistrates and sich - and he'll lay 'em aboard at the Admiral Benbow - all old Flint's crew, man and boy, all on 'em that's left. I was first mate, I was, old Flint's first mate, and I'm the on'y one as knows the place. He gave it me at Savannah, when he lay a-dying, like as if I was to now, you see. But you won't peach unless they get the black spot on me, or unless you see that Black Dog again or a seafaring man with one leg, Jim - him above all."

"But what is the black spot, captain?" I asked.

"That's a summons, mate. I'll tell you if they get that. But you keep your weather-eye open, Jim, and I'll share with you equals, upon my honour."

How is that not fun? Fun, says I.

Other TVs are back.

Chuck -- liked the first ep, thought this week's was a little weak. But big casting thumbs up from me.

Fringe -- Oh, Olivia, how screwed you are.

Castle -- Ryan! Esposito! I missed you both so much! And, you know, Castle and Beckett, too of course.

Supernatural -- I have no idea. I haven't seen it yet. SPN is a show that I very much have to be in the mood to watch and I just haven't got there yet. It was depressing enough to watch the Rockies self-destruct, and the Broncos be the Broncos, I'm not quite up to inviting more angst into my living room, atm.

My father pestered me until I gave in and watched "The Big Bang Theory". Season one, frankly, sucked. Fortunately in season two they realized it was really the Sheldon show and things improved greatly from there. Bazinga! It frequently falls victim to sitcomitis, but Sheldon makes up for just about everything. Even the annoyingly loud canned laughter. I ... have no idea what night this show airs on. I'm assuming it's back this fall, too. Oh, it's on today. Because Thursdays need more telly on. I'm already watching Bones and Fringe and Destination Truth (shut up). Man.

I haven't watched any of the new shows this year, though I think at some point I'll give Hawaii Five-O a try. What do you guys say? Anything good out there I'm missing? And don't say "Glee".

I guess that's it for now. It's always difficult starting back up again, but, well, here I am. HELLO INTERNETS!
