I know. I really wish they hadn't. I can see how it was probably necessary for Jack to reach the sort of rock bottom that he needs to. But still. *weeps*
Once you've seen ep 5, I'll point you to some "fix-it" fics if you like.
That's the one I've liked best so far. It's hard to find good Jack/Ianto that doesn't turn Gwen into a shrew, which has me backbuttoning in a flash. There's a thread of fix-it recs that I haven't explored yet here.
I actually thought I'd read more fix-it fics, but now I'm realizing that I ended up going back and reading a bunch of S1-S2 fics.
Oh, there's also Lazarus by theatresweety, but it stops at chapter 3/6, which didn't even have any comments, so I don't know if it'll be finished or not. Which is a shame, as it's a great start.
See, I'd never seen Torchwood before, so I wasn't really attached to any of the characters (Gwen's my favourite now though). Just watched the show as a fabulous and thought-provoking piece of storytelling.
OMG, yes. I finished watching last night, and it was indeed fabulous and thought-provoking. There were some terrific characters in the past 2 seasons, all of whom died -- as Torchwood members are said to die young -- so it was shocking to see Ianto go, too. One of the last of the old gang.
I loved the series and will watch it again. I don't know if the producers are planning on continuing the show. If so, I have to wonder where they'll go from here.
I've heard they are planning on a 4th season, though I can't even imagine where that would go.
What I really want to see, and that's probably its own show or a Doctor Who arc rather than a Torchwood arc, is how Jack gets from here to being the Face of Boe.
I don't know how I missed the episode where that bit of Jack's history (future?) comes out, but, wow! I have to go see if I have that episode at home. I probably did see it, but passed right over that little nugget.
I can't imagine where they would go with a a 4th season either, though since Who is continuing, there should be plenty in that universe to play with. I also like Gwen and would hate for her to be dropped because she's pregnant. Will she, like Jack's late wife, be one of the few Torchwood agents to live into old (or older) age?
I also want to know if Stephen died, and if he lived, how? That scene was painful. And one of the elements that made CoE so powerful.
