the big 4-0

Today is my birthday. Turning 40 is incredibly strange. My friend R. reminds me that in Judaism, all wisdom starts at 40. I like that concept. It's definitely better than 40 being the end of my "cupcake years," as my cousin M. told me. Of course, I have no idea what "cupcake years" are supposed to be. It does make me feel like I'm missing out ( Read more... )

HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

And I would take the cupcake years to mean that you may now EAT all the cupcakes you wish. All flavors. All kinds of icing. All sizes, from those cute little tiny ones to the ones the size of your head.

That's the kind of risk I'D be willing to take!!!

Yay! I'd like a dozen chocolate-and-peanut-butter cupcakes, please. Or just a big bag of chocolate chips and a big vat of peanut butter.

Thank you!

Happy birthday!

Coming from the point of view from 55, 40 sounds young. The older you get, the more your perspective changes. It's a lot easier to see the big picture. Problems that seemed so monumental when you were young just don't seem that way now. You see how transitory everything is.

I think you'll like forty. I did.

Well expressed, and this is how I've always lived.

Happy Birthday. My 40s have been by far My favourite age.

I've tried to live that way, though I'm still surprised at how wimpy I've been in some areas of my life. Still, onward!

I agree with Perseus.

My forties were awesome. And I'm loving my fifties.

Welcome to the wonderful world of middle age, where you care less about the stupid crap and can finally relax and just plain have fun!

*squishes you

Happy Birthday, my friend!

Thanks, Annie, especially for the squish! :D

I'm cautiously hopeful. I could go for some awesomeness!
