When topsy turvy shouldn't be

Very brief backstory: I was an elite gymnast. For eight years, that sport was my life. Trust me when I say I know the ins and outs of the sport. I should. Not only was I involved heavily for eight years, but I've been almost obsessively following it since that time ( Read more... )

Neat! I was a gymnast when i was very young and in jr high. In high school I just managed the team. My parents couldn't afford the higher levels. So....I hear what you're saying, and it's crazy. Sadly, i don't get to watch gymnastics as much as I would like anymore.

The lines... are there... for a REASON.

Too much power. The girls just had too much power. That can be attributed to nerves. I foresee them settling out on Tuesday night. Carly Patterson had the highest all around score of anyone who competed that day. That's a really good sign for her, and for the US.

The Romanians looked really good, though (as well as what little I saw of the Chinese).

Ah, but the Romanians had two girls who went out of bounds as well. :) They had rock solid routines on the beam, though. It should be interesting to see how the medals fall between the US and Romania.

I'm not denying that - I just saw a lot of it from the US team, it seems.

Yeah. Here's hoping they clean it up for tomorrow night. They can. Watching the 03 Worlds and the 04 US Nationals and Trials, these girls can nail their routines. Stop taking steps on landings. Don't go out of bounds. Land on your feet on the vault.

The US has more difficult routines than Romania does. Octavian Belu is all about consistency over spectacular routines. If the girls nail them, they can win.

And to the surprise of exactly no one, the Chinese were awesome on the bars.

I was surprised by the Chinese girl who had such a disasterous beam routine. Carly Patterson, on the other hand, had a stunning beam routine. I can't wait to see what she does in the individual all around and the beam final.

Indeed. IIRC, they was only .5 points difference.

Shades of the 03 Worlds. Romania beat out the US by .5 in the prelims. The slate is wiped clean for the team finals, and the US beat Romania for the gold.
