CHARACTER
NAME: Shinjiro Aragaki
AGE: Eighteen
FANDOM/MEDIUM: Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 FES, JRPG for the PS2
CANON PULL-POINT: Post-Game, following The Answer
ABILITIES: Physically strong, an excellent cook, and good at scaring the crap out of people. Oh, he also has a violent Persona known as Castor who specializes with physical attacks just like his wielder.

CHARACTER BACKGROUND: It's unknown how exactly his earlier life was, but for the most part, Shinjiro Aragaki grew up in an orphanage. It was there that he met the Sanada siblings, Akihiko and Miki, after their own family tragedy occurred. The three of them were known for being very close, almost like a small family of their own in the light of their predicament. Sadly, when a fire breaks out in the orphanage, Miki is, killed leaving only Shinjiro and Akihiko behind to mourn. Together, the two continue on, Akihiko trying to grow stronger in order to protect people while Shinjiro simply makes sure his 'brother' doesn't do anything stupid.

While attending middle school, Akihiko is recruited to join SEES, the Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad, by Mitsuru Kirijo, the young heir to the Kirijo Group. Upon hearing this, Shinjiro demands to join as well, refusing to take no for an answer even though there was a chance he couldn't control his Persona. Begrudgingly, Mitsuru allows him to join and the three begin fighting Shadows together during the Dark Hour. During one of their hunts, Shinjiro loses control of his Persona and accidentally kills a young mother. Horrified and fearful this accident might occur again, he resigns from SEES and his relationship with Akihiko and Mitsuru is mostly severed.

Two years following the accident, the Protagonist joins SEES and Akihiko begins to seek Shinjiro out, asking him to rejoin. Every time, he declines and tells Akihiko to go away, that he refuses to use his Persona again. It's only after a young user named Ken Amada joins that Shinjiro willingly re-joins SEES. He keeps a close eye on Ken, watching him and biding his time, expectantly waiting for something to happen. Finally, on October 4th, while the other members of SEES go ahead, Ken and Shinjiro meet in the back alleyway on Tatsumi Port Island, discussing what had occurred two years earlier. It turns out the mother Shinjiro killed was Ken's mother... and Shinjiro knew this. He figures that Ken would want to take revenge on him for slaying his mother, but warns Ken that if he did decide to avenge his mother, he would just end up like Shinjiro.

While Ken hesitates at the logic presented, both are interrupted by a Strega member, Takaya. (Strega: A rouge group of Persona-users bent on seeing the end of the world... also, they try to stop SEES). Takaya reveals that no matter what Ken decides, Shinjiro was destined to die. After he had left SEES, Shinjiro had begun taking a drug simply known as a Suppressant to keep Castor under control. Unfortunately, there's a major side effect to confining one's inner self and that is the slow decay of their body until they die. Shocked at this revelation, Ken is unable to move when Takaya draws a gun. Quickly, Shinjiro moves in front of Ken, taking a non-fatal bullet to the leg before receiving a critical shot in his chest. SEES arrives too late to save him and he passes on with a smile on his face.

Even though Shinjiro is dead at this point onward, Akihiko and Ken look over his death and find the resolve to keep moving on, allowing their personas to evolve. During the final battle against Nyx, Shinjiro is heard encouraging the Protagonist to find that final resolve and stop the end of the world from occurring.

CHARACTER PERSONALITY: Shinjiro is perpetually a tough-talker and foul-mouthed to drive people away while his dark eyes and face are usually cast into shadow by his beanie, causing his stoic glare to become more intense. That's just how he is after his persona, Castor, killed Ken's mother. He ditches school and hangs out in the back alleyways with other social outcasts or wannabe punks, occasionally performing dark deals with Strega in order to keep his Persona in control. Some can imagine how shocked he was when Akihiko told him Ken joined SEES and re-joins quickly in order to help the kid. He knows that Ken wants something and his only motivation is to let the young boy see it through if he wants.

Shinjiro, while appearing cruel outwards, is actually being eaten away by guilt. While alive, he never went a day without forgetting how he ruined Ken's life or how Castor is not in his control which is why he resorts to pills. He's aware he will die because of them, but he doesn't want Castor killing anyone again.

Akihiko and Mitsuru seem to be the only ones who Shinjiro can be more loose around; the first more so than the latter. He has problems with figures who hold some kind of authority, which can cause strains between him and others trying to know him. If someone can bypass his coldness, they'll find out he's really a good guy who looks out for others. Hell, if they can get close enough, maybe he'll let you call him 'Shinji'. Then again, that nickname is only reserved for his closest friends.

WORLD: Persona 3 takes place in the city Iwatodai in 2009 where, 10 years ago, a horrible experiment went wrong in a laboratory disguise as a high school. With the following explosion, time was ripped and the Dark Hour was born. Every night at midnight, the sky becomes green, the moon yellow, and power shuts out. Humans become coffins, water becomes blood, and shadows roam the time in search of human minds to consume. The High School where the experiment was before twists and grows, becoming the labyrith Tartarus. Only a few can tread safely into the Dark Hour and defend themselves. They're known to have the potential to summon entities known as Personas who are physical manifestations of a person's psyche. Together, a group of these potential users make up SEES and look for a way to end the Dark Hour once and for all.

OCCUPATION: Cook or hunter. Either or is fine.

SAMPLES
THIRD PERSON:
With an irritated grunt, Shinjiro removed his beanie, not caring if it tossed his already messy hair up. The sun was unforgiving, he could admit that much, but he had already stripped out of his jacket. Screw walking... he was going to check the supplies and make plans for dinner. There was only so much he could cook here, but that didn't matter to him. True, it might call for some experimenting to see what he could make out of the mysterious food supplies, but he guessed this would be an opportunity to...

He stared at the rotting chunk of buffalo meat, turning pale from the smell that wafted from it. Without looking, he grabbed it and chucked it out of the wagon. He turned at a yell, but when he saw no one, he just shrugged and continued discarding rotten meat, not knowing that he was burying someone outside of the wagon underneath the pile.

FIRST PERSON:
[Annoyed scowl on the guide. Oh yes, it's Shinjiro. He grunts and runs a hand over his beanie, flattening it against his head more than usual. He doesn't exactly look pleased, but after a minute or so of silence, he finally addresses the people on the other end]

We're running low on supplies. Two idiots thought the best solution to driving off an attacking bear was to chuck everything at it without stopping...

Can't offer much in trade, but... suppose I could cook or something in exchange.

[... This is stupid. He just hangs up after that.]

NOTES: He has a soft spot for animals and kids. Also, he watches Cooking Shows in secret and carries around a knife as a memento from his orphanage. Occasionally, he might get a bad migraine from Castor since he doesn't have his pills to control it, but other than that, he's still a bit surly.
