To be nervous would be illogical.

Nervousness was a result of fear, and fear was an emotion unbecoming of a Vulcan or half-Vulcan.

But Spock was still nervous, no matter how he argued the point with himself. He’d sung before, of course, as a child. Once at the academy he’d been coerced into singing a few lines of a Vulcan myth-song; for educational purposes, naturally. He knew he could sing passably, but he still felt damnably nervous.

He attributed it to the fact that Saval would be there as well. Saval, and half the crew; he wondered if karaoke night had been so popular before they found out two Vulcans would be joining in. He stood off to the side of the area where the machine had been arranged, arms relaxed at his sides, head tilted slightly as he observed the methodology of the activity. A gentleman from engineering was belting out the lines to a song Spock had heard once before, his voice high and a little off-key. He hoped he could stay on key when it was his turn.

Someone sidled up beside him, and he turned to regard his captain with a raised eyebrow. Jim mimicked it with an added in grin.

“If you thought I was gonna miss hearing you sing, you were dead wrong, Spock.”

“I had hoped you would find engagement elsewhere,” Spock muttered, turning his attention back to the singing man.

He let his gaze wander briefly to Saval and sidestepped a bit to stand closer to the other Vulcan. “Are you ready? I think that I will go after Ensign Ricks has finished his ballad.”
