Hey kids -- random post.  I've been looking for some new pop-for-kicks artists for diversion, considering that my fave fave fave artists are either so original they are hard to find, or are on their way out of existence (sadness).    For example, here are my top picks for whenever:

- Duncan Sheik
- Enigma
- Deep Forest
- Sting
- Aqua
- Lene
- Clay Aiken

Moxy Fruvos are outside of those artist, but they're a righteous lot of fun.

Rufus Wainwright? Simon and Garfunkle? Belle and Sebastian?

Graham Bier intro'd me to them briefly with their kickass "Green Eggs" adaptation. :o) Haven't heard that name in a long time -- shall look them up.

As for S&G, that's my dad's duo -- my '60s group of choice will always be Mamas & Papas. <3 They make-a me happy.

Thanks for the suggestions! Shall add to the list!

I'm not very familiar with any of the artists you mention, so I'm afraid the only contributions I can make are these: Mom bought Sarah McLachlan's album Surfacing years and years ago (right after she watched City of Angels) and we still listen to it sometimes; and the only song I can remember hearing by Fiona Apple was "Extraordinary Machine," when I lived outside LA and they played it on the public radio station a lot, and *man*. I've been thinking about acquiring it myself, 'cause it's been in my *head* lately, and I really want to hear it again. So see if you can include that one in whatever you purchase from her. (And you do realize there is such a thing as legit downloads, yes? Can make it easier to get what you want without "the dreck" it's often packaged with on CDs, yes ( ... )

Oh, right--if you like Norah Jones's solo work, then you do know about her work in The Little Willies, right? :-)

rufus wainwright rules.

sometimes, when i'm looking for something new to listen to, i listen to some frank sinatra. it's good but i always forget that because i barely ever listen to him. also, you can't go wrong with 80's music.

The Fiona Apple album "Extraordinary Machine" is itself extraordinary. It won NPR's Album of the Year when it came out.

For They Might Be Giants, if you're looking for favorites from VAMPY, look no further than "Flood" and "Apollo 18" (in that order). Their newest album is called "The Else" and it is also really, really, really good.

I also recommend Harvey Danger's most recent album, "Little By Little." (Surprise.) It's a brilliant album. :-)
