Depowering Event Starts [open]

Oct 11, 2011 20:57

Some point mid afternoon, a silence falls over the Mansion that's nearly as bad as it is outide. In a corner of the house, a blinding light speeds across the wing. A boy appears in just a white shirt and pants. The light then spreads, like a bright lensflare shuddering itself through the property ( Read more... )

Marie had been in the basement working out when it happened. She saw a light out of the corner of her eye, but weird occurances were usual here. She didn't think twice, just kept lifting weights.

However, in her track suit, eventually she came up to grab a water. She fully intended on going back to work out.

The kitchen was clearly the first place to look for somebody to help. Mostly because it was closer than the offices, and Sean had no idea where everyone would be, just now.

He burst in, hair in a bit of disarray.

"Rogue! Hey, um. Do you have any idea why somebody might have just... fainted? I mean, Yuriko. She seemed in good shape and all, and now she really doesn't." Out of breath, too.

She looked up from the fridge and over at Sean. Something was wrong. Rogue hadn't met the woman but she had heard about her. She shook her head. "No. Is... is something happening? Did something happen to her?" She asked.

"I take it you didn't run into the Professor on the way here?" Or Logan.

Sean shook his head, too. "No, I'd have taken them back to her if I had. She was just... on the ground. Breathing, but barely, didn't answer me. I put her on a couch, thought it would be probably better than leaving her on the ground."

After a moment, he added, "there wasn't any blood that I could see, nor any... bruises or anything. Or limbs at odd angles. Em... Should I splash water on her face or something?"

He started towards the sink, for a glass and water, not thinking too much how close he might be passing to the fridge.

Or to Rogue's elbow.

Oh, she felt it. And it was like it was ripped from her. Lorna grasped the kitchen table and made a light wining noise. And then it was just gone and the light trailed with it. There was nothing. No metal. No Earth. Everything was stagnant and sitting there just made her want to scream.

Did she lose her ability? Lorna moved her hand, expecting to get one of th appliances to work. Nothing happened. She stretched farther and concentrated as hard as she could. Again nothing. Gritting her teeth, Lorna forced everything in her to get something to move, anything.

But there was an eerie stillness. And it made her panic.

Erik was in his office, going over maps of the Alkali Lake area. He noticed immediately. In that environment, he couldn't not. It was like the whole room suddenly became invisible.

He stared at the desk a moment, then laid his hands flat on the cool steel surface.

"No..." he murmured. He glanced almost frantically around the room, focusing on a chair, but he couldn't make it move. "No, no, no..."

Charles...

He didn't know if Charles could hear him, or if he'd been as blinded as Erik, but Erik wasn't waiting for a reply anyway. He raced out of the room and ran up the stairs.

It was noticeable right away. Only moments before, he could hear Erik's thoughts; hear most of the others, too. But, then there was nothing. Only his own voice inside his mind.

Charles immediately rose to his feet and moved to his door.

Erik? Are you there? ERIK?

Erik almost slammed into Charles' door when it opened, putting a hand out and catching it, steadying himself.

"Charles," he said breathlessly. "Something's happened."

But Charles had opened the door when Erik was close enough to be hit by it, he realized. He hadn't known Erik was so near. Realization dawned.

"It's happened to you too," he noted gravely.

The near crash forced Charles to step back a few feet. He couldn't decide what was more unnerving: that he didn't know who was on the other side of the door, or, that he didn't know they were coming. Which was entirely too reminiscent of the attack.

As soon as Erik appeared, he breathed heavily.

"What is going on?" he questioned worriedly.

John used fire so casually and so often, he didn't even think about it. He didn't even realize he was flicking on the lighter at his wrist until it burned him.

It burned him.

"OW!"

He lifted his hand and examined the lighter, giving it one more experimental flick. It sparked, it burned his hand, he shook it furiously and scowled at it.

What the hell was going on?

Lorna decided the best course of action was to wander from room to room, flicking her wrist and then cursing. She'd made it to John's when she heard him. Peering in, she looked at him.

"Is... is something happening or is it just me?" She asked before she saw herself in the reflection of some ornamental art piece of the wall. "What the fuck? I'm blonde?!"

"Who gives a flying fuck what colour your hair is? I lost my power," John said crossly.

She turned her hair to stare at him. "My hair is a part of my mutation, douchebag." Lorna retored before bringing her hand up to move his lighter. Still nothing.

"See. Not working either."

For Emma, it was like having all her senses turned off. Suddenly she felt completely cut off, leaving her chilled as she straightened, looking around in confusion. She could still see and hear but everything felt muted.

That's when she realized she couldn't hear. Her telepathy was gone, just like that.

Pushing out of the chair she had been sitting in, she looked around the library as she half expected an attack though she didn't know what from. How could her power just be gone like that?

Wetting her lips, she tried to shift into her diamond form but nothing happened. Looking down at herself, she realized that she was completely powerless and defenseless, something she didn't like one bit.

On his way upstairs to check on who else had been affected, Charles passed the library and stopped to see if anyone had been inside. It was after he pushed the door open and saw Emma standing inside the room with a look of utter confusion that he drew the immediate conclusion that she, too, was without her ability.

"Emma. You're without it, aren't you?"

Emma tried not to look completely unsettled as she looked up at Charles but the ice cold facade was slipping a bit, especially at the sight of him. "What's happening?"

Then she frowned. "Are you without it too?"

"It's a child, from the future; a mutant who can cancel out other abilities." Charles told her, his voice calm and composed, almost as if the problem is nothing but an inconvenience.

He nodded. For him, it was a peace he never had experienced. But, for her, he could definitely see that it was more troubling.

"Obviously, this poses a rather large problem, especially right now."

Stryker was that problem, and without knowing what his next move was, the child could endanger them all.
