I had a really good idea earlier today so I'm going to type until one comes out.

I re-watched "The Number 23" today on HBO, and I have to say it falls apart upon rewatching. The only way it makes sense is if his wife is a complete & total sociopath who's purposefully putting him through all of this for her own entertainment; their son is an extremely well developed 11 year old; and he's schizoid enough that he doesn't notice his going out in the middle of the night, writing on the hotel wall, wandering back home, yet this personality recalls everything which occurs in his "normal" persona.

I thought I had food poisoning on Friday, but I've had horrible incapacitating stomach cramps, a normal sized appetite, and a need to go to the bathroom every time I bend my stomach for two days after the rest of the symptoms disappeared. It seems to have mostly cleared up by now. I'm suspecting a soft flu, like Tommy & Erin had. Having only been seriously ill for two days, it was not long enough to get the regular positive side effect of illness (belly loss... but I am down to a bit under 180 now... around HS weight). My muscles seem to have softened a bit- which makes sense, as the only "exercise" I got was walking to the fridge, getting sick at the smell of food, walking to the bathroom, and then curling up under three blankets to spend twenty minutes shivering violently (despite a fever of 101) until I warmed up enough to go back to the bathroom. On the plus side, my mom was able to mother me as much as she wanted to, and I was able to genuinely appreciate it (except, on both of our counts, her making another meal every half hour or so. We went through a week's worth of food in one day, of which I was able to eat half a slice of toast & most of a cup of applesauce. But she kept cooking more.). Also, I'm almost better now.

My laptop & desktop both need their motherboard replaced. My laptop had about 6-8 months of active use, but overheated from the start. My Desktop had 2.5-3 years of near-continuous use. However, this does not explain why I so consistently destroy that one part, where I've heard of other people using their computers for many times at long as that without the same problem. I don't do anything too difficult on them... Why do I destroy HDs so well?

I watched a lot of TV when I was ill. One pleasant surprise was Voltron: Defender of the Universe. I was expecting it to be crap which I only liked because I was 4 when I last watched it. I was wrong. The animation was tolerable, and the action scenes were lackluster (one shot each between Voltron & enemy, then they went for the big thing which always kills the bad guy in one shot every time. Perfectly logical, but really feels like they were just trying to get it over with), and there was the requisite annoying-ten-year-old-superhero of the team. However, the characters were well-defined, including one chick I recognized as a recurring bit part & a one-shot character. There was actual character development, and the writing and (most of) the dialogue were on par with, or slightly above, the quality of most big-budget Hollywood fantasies.

Oh yeah... what I planned on writing about- now to be done in separate posts because no-one will get this far because it's boring as hell-
How the standards for tipping have gone up over time. Mom sees 10% as "the norm" and 15% as "for great service", everyone I know tips 20% as a default, only goes down as an insult & will round up for good, and actually go up for truly great.
The communication of "Low Culture" Vs. "High Culture"- It seems like everyone knows Sublime's "Summertime", but I didn't know Gershwin's until I went to Amsterdam and saw Porgy & Bess. Maybe the lack of Elitism lets it spread easier?
