As one of your favorite Syrian-Israeli liberal gay atheists That made me laugh for some reason. I don't know why. =D
You may remark "but I've heard that the sick and elderly wait months for treatment." In the boondocks, yes. This is true. I don't know how people can say universal health care is socialist, either. In any kind of healthcare system, the sick and elderly ARE going to wait longer for care in the boondocks. It's a simple law of supply and demand. Boondocks=smaller population=less doctors. In addition, at least in my experience, I think it may seem that the elderly wait longer for healthcare in the boondocks simply because there tend to be more of them there. The over 65 population where I grew up is large--I'd be willing to guess significantly larger than the national average, and I'd also be willing to guess this is the case in other boondock areas as well.
