I had a disturbing experience at work today.
I overheard a mention of neonatal (really young kid- <1 month in humans) testing, and my Special Friend Jason calls his puppy "neo-nate"*, so I listened to the conversation. He was ordering laboratory animals from Charles River. I know it goes on, but it's still a bit odd to hear hundreds of lives

Rats cannot consent, but that's not the point. Ordering up lives and then denying we don't need them, is. Saying "We'd like to buy a baby, go make one," then saying "oops, paperwork got screwed up. Kill it and make another in six weeks" should offend you on both ends. Not just the killing.
Hell, I feel guilty disinfecting things. I'm not cut out to be a research scientist.
