Seems kind of odd that it was demolished and nothing built at the site. Any idea why it was demolished? All I could find is where someone was trying to get it rezoned to build a couple of office buildings.

Looks like there were a lot of conventions held there from the '60's through the '80's.

Marriott ran into financial trouble during the real estate crash in the 1990s, so that might have been the reason.

they tore it down, because it no longer met their system standards, it was nothing more then a motel.

Frankly I think it's kind of refreshing -- nature triumphs again!

Stayed there on numerous occasions from late 60's thru mid 70's on family trips to Washington DC. It was a fun place for a kid. Saw William Conrad at The Fairfield Inn Restauant in the Motel one summer. Thought it was so cool they had a barber shop in the basement.

I was a bellman at the Twin Bridge Marriott while attending the U of Md- College Park. Helped me pay for college. I checked in lots of neat people- John Glenn, Kate Smith, Rocky Marciano, Jackie Mason, Jackie Wilson, James Brown's wife!. I remember the rates were about $13 a night, and people complained...because the Holiday Inn was $11! Guests checked in at a drive in window and we would jump on bicycles and have them follow us to their room in the motel sections. No car...we would carry bags to their room in the five story hotel building. I used to get my haircut in the barber ship there as well. Fun place to work...and above all, excellent training for how to run an efficient business and treat a customer! There were only five Marriotts in total then. I had at least five of my fraternity brothers working as bellmen there. They closed this hotel because it was so out dated, and apparently will not build anything else there.
