Which books should I take?

I will have this going on my main blog, but I might as well put one here and use polls. I have been deciding about which books to take and subsequently to read when I move at the end of the month. Since I will not return for the other books for maybe a year, I'm having a hard time deciding which to take with me and read in my time abroad. While I ( Read more... )

So, if you do count the LotR trilogy as two books, I've picked five for you. ;)

Someone recommended The Red Tent to me a couple years ago, and it was really good. I was going to say I really enjoyed it, but that's not a completely accurate statement. It's got enough heart-wrenching stuff in it that I can honestly say reading it was not an overall enjoyable experience, but it was well worth it. By the by, I haven't read all of the ones I voted for, but at least most of them, yes. ;) Actually...okay...so Don Quixote is the only one I haven't read, but I'd like to eventually.

Let us know what you choose!!!

Thank you! I read Fellowship of the Ring like almost a decade ago, and I started The Two Towers, but I never finished it. So I need to finish it and read The Return of the King as well.

Yes, a lot of people, women in particular have been reccing about The Red Tent to me (which is why I bought it). Though there are a lot of books which are good, but painful stuff. I know a lot of the books in the list are like that.

Ah yes, Don Quixote. Someday! Just a question if I want to read it in the UK I guess.

Have a good day at work.

I'd take a Checkov collection based on The Cherry Orchard alone. It's absurd yet meaningful. I love the ending.

well, I'm from Russia and really can say that Checkov is outstanding. You won't be disappointed. As for me, now I'm reading "the Catcher in the rye" by Salinger (in English of course) - and it is getting more and more interesting..

Hi,
I found your domain through the expat to London website- then from aquatique I found my way here. I'm wondering if you post friends-only about London at all- I might be moving there in 7-8 months and I'd love to read how your arrival and stay have gone.

Thanks.

Hi, feel free to add me. I'm not updating LJ as much as I thought, but I will try in the next few weeks. My arrival here was turbulent, and it's mostly personal what I've posted. I'll be glad to help with your move in any way. This city is wonderful, but intense place to move to. Good luck.
