Day 3 of 136

May 20, 2007 07:50

Didn't run today, I'm thinking I'll run 6 days a week and take Sundays off. Yesterday I tested myself again for situps, I'm up to 47 in 2 minutes, 50 situps is easy, but doing them fast is a lot harder than I thought, but I'm already close to the target for situps. I did 30 in a minute, but I hit a wall at 40 and had to push really hard to make 47 ( Read more... )

Fluctuations in weight +/- up to 5lbs is normal. You ussualy weigh less in the morning. If you're gonna start tracking your weight, start weighing yourself at the same time each day (preferably in the morning before you eat) and naked.

ps- i think the marines do crunches unless this has changed.
"While in Receiving, you'll be given the Initial Strength Test (IST). To pass (and avoid the Physical Conditioning Platoon), you'll be required to do 2 dead-hang pull-ups, 44 crunches in 2 minutes, and a 1.5 mile run in 13.5 minutes (males)."

Hmmm... I dunno. The recruiter told me 50 situps, and Logan (my Marine friend) told me that you do situps (crossed arms, elbows to knees) in basic. I need to call the recruiter and ask some other questions, I'll bring that up then.

There are also a lot of form "tricks" that will help with both the PU and SU portions (and pull-up).

The number one thing for SU is to let yourself DROP on the way down. I mean -DROP-; you aren't doing this for strength. Having your stomach work on the way up is enough -- you don't need to resist on the way down.

As for push-ups, you can probably get a couple more out if you change your hand position. Try super wide, then super narrow at the end. You can probably hit some muscle groups that aren't as fatigued.

Logan gave me a video of recruits going through Marine basic and I was wondering why they were hitting the ground so hard on the way down when doing situps, now it makes sense!
