hey pang i've got a question for you ^_^. What's better for learning how to shot before buying a dslr: a canon a610 or a sony w70? I currently own the a610 but there's this great deal on the w70 (a little over $250) and i could sell the canon and buy that one if i get good feed back on it.

so, any thoughts?

Anything with manual controls will work just fine. Honestly, though, using a P&S with manual controls didn't help me in the slightest when I jumped up to a DSLR. You have a million times more control over a DSLR then you do with a P&S that has a "manual" mode. Reading and reading and reading and reading and reading and reading to gather as much knowledge as you can will benefit you more than any P&S will. Learn all you can, then pick up the camera and start putting that knowledge to use. Knowledge and experience with a DSLR is all you can do to get better.

But why do you need to step-up to a DSLR? Just to have one? It's expensive and it's pretty much a desease... ask Bligs. He said he was going to stop buying stuff, but he keeps going and going, just like the rest of us do. :P

Don't think about stepping up to a DSLR unless you've outgrown your current cameras capabilities.

IM me on AIM or MSN (I'm rarely ever on MSN, but if it's all you got then I can get on every now and then if you have questions) if you want to talk about it

You suck for not including links. I wanted to look, and I'm too lazy to Google it.

•tubes----------------------------------------$170

•85mm(usm, f/1.8, mid-tele, full time MF)-----$340

•150mm(macro, hsm, 1:1, telephoto)------------$560

You're gonna get bored of macro real quick. Especially since winter is coming. It would make more sense to wait until you have longer lenses to get the tubes. That way, you can use the shorter extension tubes for close-up portraits/shallower DOF, instead of just for macro. Look at the majority of your gallery. It seems like you like to shoot events/cars. You'd benefit a lot more from having more reach with hsm/usm/faster focusing for aiservo.

I'm still planning on buying the Sigma 150 next month (I already have half of the price saved up, I can easily afford next month). But even with the 1:1 I still plan on getting tubes to get even closer.

I do really want the 85mm for event shit, but I need a long lens.
